Research & Teaching Interests

Research Interests

My interests lie broadly in the areas of user studies, particularly information seeking, user behavior and the making of meaning.

I am especially interested in the confluence between information and recreation, particularly in an adult population. I would like to know how people go about finding and using the information they need to succeed in recreational pursuits and also what information is gained, intentionally or unintentionally by participating in these pursuits.

I also maintain an interest in information seeking and user behavior in alternate environments (such as online) and among various subcultures.

Teaching Interests

I have a broad interest in teaching in various subjects as is evidenced by my vita. I particularly enjoy Research Methods, Information Design, Information Technology and Community Relations, but am always open to the exploration of new courses.

I enjoy course development and I have developed courses in Web 2.0 and beyond, particularly for Libraries and in Information Service to Special Needs Populations.

In the future I would like to design and teach a course or prepare workshops that  the area of play in adulthood.
