For Lucky #13, Arizona, I did something a little different The USAT Duathlon Nationals Sprint Distance Open (wow that is a mouthful). The open race was attached to the nationals as a “beginner” race, timed, but not eligible for awards. There were 6 of us that competed in it and it was the last wave of the day. (I came in 6th). This really was intended to be a “beginner” race to try out the sport of duathlon. They started it at 10 minutes after high noon…a good way to get people never to do this again! (Though I have since done a du)
It was a difficult 2.5K/17.5K/2.5K race and I completed it in 1:56:23, I was very last over the line…but it was the same finish line and the same hoopla and the same announcer…and those wonderful iced towels and the volunteers who took care of finding me food, and most of all Glenda (who had competed earlier in the day), were the best!!!
