Hordon Feast and Fayre 10K, Horndon, Essex, UK
On June 26, 2011, I ran my first international race. We had been in Aberdeen, Scotland for a conference, and then spent a few days in London. The day of the race, we took a train, and then a bus and then walked about a mile uphill to get to the race venue. I was nearly exhausted when we got there. Add to that it was 90 degrees (In England, for real! I got sunburned). So in a way it was not wonder that my time was a very slow 1:38:12. Still though it was a fun time and it was good to be able to say I’d done it as one of the only 2 Americans ever to have done the race.
- Here I am near the end of the race still attempting to run
- Here Glenda and I are after the race. She was second woman overall
On September 12, 2013 in the evening, I ran my second race in England in Victoria Park, London. The City V. Wharf 5K was a fun event…I dressed as the quintessential interloping American Tourist. And I had a PR of 36:58!

Me before the race in my “interloping American tourist” gear.
