On Saturday June 14, 2014, after a very quick turn around we ran the second race of our East Coast Dad’s Day Trifecta weekend. The Purple Stride, Washington, DC. This race was meaningful one, taking place on our 17th anniversary and running a race to promote research on pancreatic cancer (which is what took my father). It was also a scenic one in that it passed Capitol Hill and the Washington Monument after starting on the National Mall right outside our hotel. Because of all of this, and the quick turnaround, we decided to deliberately run this one together and just for fun. I made the purple tutus we wore and we wore identical purple shirts. Though it was not the point, I will note that we finished in 45 minutes even. Yes, I know that DC is not technically a “state,” but it is an important part of the country, so I count it as 28 of the eventual 51.
- After the race in all our tutu-ed glory!
- Glenda dropped out and caught this shot of me passing the Washington Monuement.
