May 19, 2017 North Dakota become state number 43 when I ran the Hero’s 5k on Friday evening as the first leg of the Go Far in Fargo challenge. Glenda ran it with me and due to the heroes theme we were decked in our stars and stripes. The race was crowded, but good…and with a little afterburner in the last tenth I almost beat 45 minutes with a final time of 45:01. The next day was the completion of the challenge with the 10K (in 1:37:36 which was better than I expected). All the races that day started in the Fargodome on the North Dakota State University campus. It was an extremely comfortable way to start a race, as there was plenty of seating for waiting as earlier races began. We also ended there which meant jumbotron footage and place to sit for recovery. As Glenda would say…this race gets 5 stars “would race again.” It didn’t hurt that we had a pocket of good weather and the people of Fargo were very welcoming.
