Starting with the Princess Half Marathon in 2011, I discovered the joys of costume running . This pages will share the costumes over the year…both Disney and others!
Glenda and I also often run in “themes” which are not full on costumes, but are out of the ordinary. View those here.
The Race that started it all Disney Princess Half February 27, 2011
We ran this race in costume because we heard it was the thing to do. But it started something…something fun and wonderful!
“Tink” and “Minnie-Cinderella” very early on the morning we ran our first costume run
Bunny and Zebra hit the road for the Ghoulish Gallop in October of 2010
A Halloween race in Fitchburg, WI gave us our next opportunity to run in costume. We still lived in Texas/Rhode Island then and were visiting family. We challenged my son and daughter in law to do the race…and our granddaughter did the kids race (also as a bunny). My son’s wife dressed as the 80s runner, complete with a side pony…I I don’t think we convinced my son that dressing up was fun.
Glenda and I in our matching shirts, bridal veils and bibs that read 15 years and running.
It took us some months (over a year) before we went for the themed costume again. This time for the Moonlight Margarita Run in Austin on our 15th anniversary June 14, 2012. It would be almost as long before we did at least partial costumes again, though eventually, as you will see, it became habit.
I appeared as the quasi-Easter bunny at the ASH Dash
In late March of 2013 I decided to be a little bit goofy at an Easter weekend 5k. It wasn’t too much of a stretch as a lot of people run this race in tutus or ears. It took a while for me to get to a point where I would regularly dress up when others didn’t.
This “bunny” runs as a member of team I thought they said rum at the August 2013 Zilker Relays
All the “bunnies” on the team, Glenda, me, Tammy and Anne
It was only 5 months before the bunny ears and “quasi-costume” appeared again when I ran the Zilker Relays in Austin with Glenda, Tammy Roen and Anne Ekern on a HOT day in August of 2013.
Interloping American Tourist in both an Ottawa Canda race and a London UK race in August and September of 2013.
It wasn’t long before I was running in costume again as an “interloping American tourist” in Canada and the UK. This outfit has turned up repeatedly as themed wear for patriotic holidays over the years. It is a go to for Memorial Day and 4th of July races.

and on the Run
The Monster Tri in October of 2013 gave us the chance to take our costuming to the next level….a triathlon! Started in a dark swim suit and yellow cap and added pieces for each discipline!
